bOOk Of little things
Ishwar Maharaj
bOOk Of little things was first performed at The Oval House, London 2007 and was the recipient of an awards from The Arts Council England and The Peggy Ramsey Foundation.
Three stories connected by war and a woman called Scarlet Billows who moves through space and time.
The first Scarlet steals poppies from war memorials and listens to dance music on her vera lynn dukebox.
The second tries to enlist in the army, who select their soldiers by way of a series of auditions like a reality TV talent show.
The third Scarlet plays some very dubious games with her uncle Uncle while waiting for her love to return.
The play asks the questions: Are we programmed to destroy? Is war in our DNA?

"Ishwar Maharaj does not only master the words,
the structure and the genre of Le Theatre de l'Absurde, his direction skills prove excellent at revealing the best of his crew.
Ishwar Maharaj will soon count among the masters.
Remember his name! Watch this space! "
Joelle Ferley L'ARTOCARPE

"I was surprisingly and wonderfully delighted with this production. Essentially it takes a look at some very dark territory. It illustrates how we live with or overlook and blindly accept things in our world that if we took a step back surely we could not tolerate them so easily. But all too often we do not take that step back and the bOOk of little things also explores the stuff that keep us so busy: personal tragedy &/or madness, large waves of nonsense that divert us as a society (e.g. celebrity culture) and, I guess, helplessness.
But before you reach for the mogadon it does all this with such a joy of spirit and with such excellent humour that the bOOk of little things reminds us too why we move onwards with hope in our hearts."

"Pure delight! A kooky concoction of characters in the most absurd situations. It shouldn't work, but it does...in spades."
